Buyers Guide & Tips

Within the window furnishings industry there are so many companies offering so many different types of Plantation Shutters.  Each company offering a different material, quality and price.

At Complete Blinds we have identified key points that separate our Plantation Shutters from inferior plantation shutters available. We hope these points help making your Plantation Shutter decision a good one and help you find “Value for Money”.

  1. Basswood – When choosing interior Plantation Shutters, basswood is our recommended. A superior natural product to many materials including PVC. Basswood is a hardwood and lighter than PVC. It also allows a wider louver size and better insulation properties than PVC.  PVC is only best used in wet areas.

  2. Paint Finish – Our quality 2 – pack polyurethane paint provides a smoother paint finish then ever before. It also provides resistance against knocks and scratches making the plantation shutter more durable. A superior paint finish to other plantation shutters available on the market.

  3. Mortise and Tenon Joints – The strongest of joins available on the market. This joint connects the framing of the plantation shutters. No staple joints.

  4. Experience – At Complete Blinds we have over ten years experience in measuring and installing Plantation Shutters. We do not use sub – contractors, this allows us to have complete control over the installation process.

  5. Brand –MYT Shutters, a trusted brand within in the industry that has over ten years experience manufacturing Plantation Shutters. Complete Blinds are an authorised dealer for MYT Shutters. With this partnership we can offer the highest quality with the best service.

How to Measure

Measuring your Windows

What you need:

  • Pen & Paper
  • Metal tape measure
  • Good lighting

How to measure:

  • Every measurement should be exact to the millimetre.
  • Measure Width x Drop, do not reverse these measurements.
  • When measuring look at any obstacle that would affect the operation of the plantation shutters such as window handles, door handles, kitchen benches etc. Make allowances for these obstacles.
  • Do not get distracted when measuring and ensure the tape measure is always straight.

Measuring OUTSIDE Mount

50mm  L Frame

This measurement is used when you require your Plantation Shutters to be fitted within the reveal/within a window frame. This particular mount requires a minimum depth of 50mm; this is to ensure the Plantation Shutter Louvers can operate correctly without hitting any obstacle. This mount can be done with a “50mm L Frame” or “Panels Only”.

WIDTH – Please measure the width in 3 x different locations (Top, Middle and Bottom) within the recess as indicated on the image. We require the smallest measurement obtained.

DROP – Please measure the drop in 3 x different locations (Left, Middle, Right) within the recess as indicated on the image. We require the smallest measurement obtained.

Important Note – Consider “Panels Only” (No Frames) if there is a flyscreen as once fitted, fly screens can be difficult to remove.

Measuring INSIDE Mount

50mm  L Frame

This measurement is used when you require your Plantation Shutters to be fitted on the face of your architrave (You may choose this method when the Plantation Shutter cannot fit within the reveal).  This particular mount requires a “70mm L Frame”, this frame is required so the louvers can operate correctly without hitting your architrave.

WIDTH – Please measure the width in 3 x different locations (Top, Middle and Bottom) from one edge of the architrave to the other as indicated on the image. We require the largest measurement obtained.

DROP – Please measure the drop in 3 x different locations (Left, Middle, Right) from one edge of the architrave to the other as indicated on the image. We require the largest measurement obtained.
